Good Thoughts Psychology: Terms of Service (Individual Clients)
Oct 27, 2026 · @Cassian Hall
1. About these terms
These terms apply when you book or pay for counselling or psychological therapy with Good Thoughts Psychology Ltd (“we”, “us”), and form part of the agreement between you and us.
- Who we are: Good Thoughts Psychology Ltd, company number SC546170, registered in Scotland. Registered office: 1 The Glebe, Pencaitland, East Lothian, EH34 5EZ. Trading as goodthoughts.uk.
- Who we work with: adults aged 18 or over. We do not provide therapy to under-18s.
- The service: one-to-one counselling and psychological therapy, delivered either in person at a venue agreed with you or online by video, by Cassian Hall at times agreed by both parties.
- What is not included: crisis support, diagnosis of medical conditions, prescribing, legal, medical or financial advice, or ad hoc advice outside agreed session hours.
- Outcomes: we work to the best of our professional ability, but cannot guarantee a particular result. Progress depends on many factors, including your own engagement between sessions.
- Acceptance: by completing payment you confirm that you have read and agree to these terms. You will also be asked to sign a Counselling Agreement before your first session.
2. Fees, payment and session blocks
Payment is taken in advance through Stripe, before you book your session times. Prices are in pounds sterling.
| Option | Sessions | Price | Must be used within |
| Single session | 1 | £85 | 6 months of purchase |
| Block of 8 | 8 | £640 | 6 months of purchase |
| Block of 12 | 12 | £900 | 8 months of purchase |
- Session length: each session lasts up to 60 minutes.
- Booking your sessions: after payment you will be given a link to book your session times. Blocks are normally booked as weekly sessions, but you may skip weeks or change times by agreement, provided all sessions are used within the validity period.
- Expiry: sessions not used within the validity period lapse and are not refundable, except where we have been unable to offer you suitable times.
- Transfers: a block is personal to you and cannot be transferred, shared or exchanged for cash.
- Price changes: our fees may change. A change will never affect a block you have already paid for.
- Payment security: card payments are processed by Stripe. We do not see or store your card details.
3. Booking, cancellation and missed sessions
- Changing or cancelling a session: please give at least 48 hours notice by email or through your booking link. Where you do, we will rearrange the session at no charge, within your validity period.
- Late cancellation or non-attendance: with less than 48 hours notice, or if you do not attend, the session is treated as used and is not refunded or rearranged. We may waive this in genuine emergencies, at our discretion.
- Late arrival: the session ends at its scheduled time, so a late start shortens your session.
- If we need to cancel: we will give as much notice as possible and rearrange the session. If we cannot offer a suitable time within your validity period, we will extend it or refund the unused sessions.
- Our availability: we will usually respond to messages within two working days. Messages are for administration only and are not monitored for urgent matters.
4. Cancelling your purchase and refunds
- 14-day right to cancel: because you are buying online, you may cancel your purchase within 14 days of payment, without giving a reason, by emailing help@goodthoughts.uk.
- If you want sessions to start within those 14 days: you will be asked to confirm this when you book. If you then cancel, we will deduct a proportionate amount for each session already delivered (£85 for a single session, £80 per session in a block of 8, £75 per session in a block of 12), and refund the rest.
- Refunds: approved refunds are paid to the original card within 14 days of your cancellation.
- After 14 days and before end of use by period: unused sessions are not refundable, apart from the cases in section 3 where we cannot provide sessions or occasionally on compassionate grounds at our discretion.
- Ending therapy early: you may stop at any time. Unused sessions then lapse under the rules above, unless we agree otherwise in writing.
5. Confidentiality, records and data protection
- Confidentiality: what you tell us in sessions is private. We will not share it with anyone without your consent, except in the limited circumstances below.
- Limits to confidentiality: we may need to share information, as little as necessary, where (a) there is a serious risk of harm to you or someone else, (b) a child or vulnerable adult may be at risk, (c) we are required to by law or court order, or (d) the law requires reporting of terrorism or money laundering.
- Supervision: as required by professional standards, we discuss our work in clinical supervision. Your identity is never disclosed.
- Your information: we are the data controller for your personal data. We hold your contact details, payment records, session notes and the questionnaires or exercises you complete, and use them only to deliver and administer your therapy, meet legal and insurance obligations, and protect our legitimate interests. Health information is special category data, processed on the basis of your explicit consent and for the provision of health care.
- Storage and security: Session notes are taken by hand and kept in a lockable filing cabinet. Booking details are processed through TidyCal and payments through Stripe. Signed agreements are kept in a password-protected folder, and our email accounts are password-protected.
- Retention: session records are kept for seven years after our work ends, then securely destroyed. Payment records are kept as required for tax purposes.
- Your rights: you may ask to see, correct or erase your data, restrict or object to its use, or request a copy, by emailing cassian@goodthoughts.uk. You may also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk).
- Email and messages: Emails between Proton Mail accounts are end-to-end encrypted; messages to other providers are encrypted in transit but may not be end-to-end encrypted. Please avoid sending sensitive detail by email. Occasionally clients may elect to communicate by WhatsApp, which is also end-to-end encrypted; however, Meta may collect metadata, such as who is contacted, when, and approximate location.
6. Online sessions and emergencies
- Online sessions: sessions are held by Google Meet, Zoom or Microsoft Teams. You are responsible for a private space, a stable internet connection and a suitable device. You must not record sessions. We do not record them either, unless we agree it in writing.
- Your location: you must tell us where you are at the start of each online session, and you must be in the UK. If a connection fails, we will try to reconnect and, if we cannot, rearrange the session at no charge.
- Not an emergency service: we do not provide crisis or out-of-hours support. If you are in immediate danger, call 999.
- If you need urgent help: contact your GP, call NHS 24 on 111, or call Samaritans free on 116 123, at any time.
- Suitability: if, after assessment, we believe our service is not the right fit for your needs, we will say so and help you find a more suitable service. Any unused prepaid sessions will then be refunded.
7. Professional standards, insurance and complaints
- Memberships: Cassian Hall is a Graduate Member of the British Psychological Society (GMBPsS) and a fellow of the Association of Accredited Counsellors, Coaches, Psychotherapists and Hypnotherapists (ACCPH). He works in line with the ethical codes of those bodies.
- Insurance: we hold professional indemnity and public liability insurance.
- Continuing development: we maintain regular supervision and professional development.
- Complaints: if you are unhappy with any part of our service, please tell us in writing at help@goodthoughts.uk. We will acknowledge your complaint within 5 working days and aim to respond fully within 28 days.
- Escalation: if you remain dissatisfied, you may take your complaint to ACCPH under its complaints procedure, and your statutory rights are unaffected.
8. Liability, changes and governing law
- Liability: nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. Otherwise, our liability to you is limited to the fees you have paid for the service concerned. We are not liable for losses we could not reasonably have foreseen.
- Your responsibilities: you agree to give accurate information, to tell us of any change in your health or circumstances relevant to our work, and to take responsibility for your own decisions.
- Changes to these terms: we may update these terms. The version in force on the date you pay applies to what you have bought.
- Contact: cassian@goodthoughts.uk
- Governing law: these terms are governed by Scots law, and the Scottish courts have jurisdiction, although if you live elsewhere in the UK you may also have rights under your local law.
